As a child, have you ever doodled in empty papers to fill it with lines of colour? If so, you may have subconsciously gone through the first stage in getting to know what art really is. To start, art is an expressive universal language that has been used crucially in the past and now is spread out into many different branches such as music, architecture, painting, literature, and more. But one thing that brings all these many different forms together is its thoughtfulness and creativity planted into every piece. These considerate values that are present in the world of art is what makes them stand out for the enthusiasts.

Artists would often want to relay their feelings, emotions and even messages through various techniques into their pieces of artwork for their viewers to mutually reach. Taking painting artworks as an example, many well-known artworks can be found in art museums because of their perception of what is in front of them, making the viewer resonate emotionally or intellectually with the artists’ point of view, and the effectiveness of relayed messages or concepts. The said qualities of an artwork is what makes one to be hung proudly in museums for the public to turn to, from message, technique, to its meaning. Because of art’s well known universal language, the younger generation has been trying to pursue it for many personal reasons, for their good and even their future.

With times always leaping over the outdated ways, many new opportunities are created. Art has gotten its enthusiasts’ interests by the many job offers just by branching from art alone. The younger generation– alias Gen Z’s, are known to be the most creative generation due to the growing influence around them and the wide and easy  access to assets compared to the past generations.

The Gen Z’s being the most creative generation is the reason being their exposure to the artistic world through the easy access of the internet. Whereas if we’re to compare to the past generations, they did not have such modern technology which leads to the reason why they had inaccessibility to the media. One of the examples of a Gen Z artist is Billie Eilish as an American singer and songwriter. Billie Eilish is part of Gen Z and has made a few big hits with her works of songs, making her name well known in the music branch of the world of arts. Her works inspired those of the same generation as her, ergo what greatly gained her popularity as a singer and songwriter. She has become a role model towards the younger generations– inspiring thousands. With this, she has made a positive profound name for herself through arts.

There are many ways that the younger generation was influenced to take art to revolve around their worlds– it might be because of big inspirations they look up to, childhood tv shows, and even from family and friends. I, too, was pulled by the idea of creating art, especially in illustrations. Art has long helped me pursue freedom and find that release of creativity, thus helping me in my creative thinking throughout the time I create my artworks.

This brings us to more questions; in exactly what way makes art so influential towards the Gen Z’s? Science vs art, which wins and why? Art is always welcome to those with a creative mind, anyone who wishes to create for themselves are the best kind of people involved in art and can especially be inspirative. The younger generation has found out about this opportunity and may have tried to take a chance at creating art for their personal satisfaction and even future opportunities, claiming that it’s a much more enjoyable path to go through compared to other subjects like science. This very statement is what the younger generation has well considered before making their choice.

Art to say is much more understandable without needing any complex theories compared to science where it exists with its many theories and problems that often require theoretical critical thinking. Meanwhile, art is highly conceptual– art is just art, it’s what defines the artist themselves in such a sense where art has a stronger universal language compared to science.

On a personal view, I think art is a very wide category and is explorative to those inspired by the idea. The moment I started to realise this is when I discovered Chinese calligraphy paintings in particular, though this realisation did not appear so early into my perception until a few years later.

Ever since I was little, I would follow drawing tutorials on the internet of cartoony artworks step-by-step which allowed me to know the basics. Although, because I was copying the same way people create at that moment, it made me doubt my personal skills in terms of creating. Hence, I started to experiment with many different styles and eventually fruition my own consciousness of realisation of what I really wanted to create. There are many artworks posted online that I could turn to– I used it as my model figure and in result, I started to realise my yearned target which is, at that time, making meaningful art that can touch the heart. Subsequently, I soon found out about Chinese calligraphy paintings that are rich in meaning, techniques and their appeal, making it my ultimate achievement to become an illustrator such as them. This proves not only other artists could inspire others, but how the internet can assist in bringing passion to light.

From having my own experience, I encourage those with a creative standpoint to engage in art in their own ways that can bring out the best potential in them. Because in art, only passion and confidence could drive you to those unreachable heights.

With all that said, the vast uprising talents in the ever-growing world of arts could be a good model example to society. Art alone is a very powerful weapon in changing the world’s ways with its full potential creators like it did in the past until the present we know now. The good news is that it will be and always will be.
